In 1992 I had the great opportunity to have Jimmy Carl Black record on the
second ANT-BEE LP. Since then we have become very close friends. I was very
honored when Jimmy asked me to write the foreward for he is one of my
teenage heroes. Jimmy Carl Black is not just a great musician, drummer and
singer - he is a legend. Hey, how many artists in history are known for
their famoes quotes such as "When do we get paid", "Hi boys
and girls, I'm Jimmy Carl Black and I'm the Indian of the group",
"Got any beer". The quotes go on. This CD is important for several
reasons. One it is a history of Jimmy Carl Black's recordings before and
after the Mothers of Invention. A lot of his material is very hard to find
on venyl, if available at all. A lot of this material has never been
released. Also, two songs on this archival CD are the earliest known
recordings of Jimmy from 1962. This compilation also showsthe versatility of
Jimmy's talents from his great growling vocals and solid drumming to the
different styles of music he has recorded - country, the blues, Rock-n-Roll,
Gospel and Freeform Improvisation, always with that tongue-in-cheek humor
that could only come from Jimmy Carl Black. Most recently Jimmy has been
recording and touring with fellow Grandmothers Bunk Gardner and Don Preston
and is forever breaking new boundaries in music - he never stops! Jimmy Carl
Black is a legend and continues to be.
