They should have kept the name "Soul Giants" because thats what they are. I saw The grandmothers at Alligator Ally in south Florida and shared peace pipe! Try busting him now! I was the first one to talk to Jim when he came offstage. I shook his hand and said "you guys were "my Beatles" he was a warm friendly man. He answered my email last year. I also saw them in Key west the following night on a coin toss! I hate to let you down Jim but I am sad that you are gone. But I am happy that I got the chance to tell you how profoundly you impacted my life in such a positive way. I beleive 100% that, the M.O.I. made me a better person. I have much love for all of them. I wish more people "got it"..You are a Giant soul Jim and you are missed for sure. I hope to see you on the other side. Si

just heard of the passing of Jimmy. very sad. saw the Mothers many times in the 60's but did not get to meet him. by whateveryone else has posted, he seems like he was a real cool guy. just was playing Ruben & the Jets 2 weeks ago and loved his drumming on that. the guy had a killer back beat. my sympathies to his family.
you will be missed. peace
I just heard the news of Jimmy's death tonight and i am of course very sad to hear of his passing. My band Bigfoot were fortunate enough to support Jimmy a few years ago when he toured with The Muffin Men, and as well as playing a great set to a sold-out & adoring crowd, he found time to chat and crack jokes with everyone. He came across as a modest, warm, humble & funny man without airs or graces. As longtime fans, it was an honour to meet and play on the same bill as the great man.
My warmest thoughts go out to his family.
Kit.
I am saddened by your passing. I blinked, and more than 30 years just passed. You and the Mothers were one of a kind.
