I encountered JCB, DP, Ruth and Ian inLos Angeles when the original Grandmothers were doing a show at the Roxy. They'd come to see Air Pocket (Fowlers (all 5 of 'em), Chester, Ike) play at a jazz club.Being a profoundly affected Mothers/Zappa fan, I spoke with JCB andmost likely gushed the usual inane fanboy comments that he'd heardforever.I clearly remember his compassion for, and understanding of, how thismusic affected people. I made some remark along the lines of howspecial the whole phenomenon was and without missing a beat he said "you're goddamn right!". He knew. It's a lucky lot that gets theMothers/Zappa. He was simply and genuinely appreciative of my respect and gracious in his enthusiasm. I'd have JCB over for a grill and a beer anytime.
